What does an orthodontist do?

An orthodontist is a dentist who has completed additional years of specialty training in straightening teeth and aligning the bite and jaws. Orthodontists focus exclusively on this type of care.

At what age should my child see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first check-up by age 7. Most children do not need treatment that early, but an evaluation helps us spot issues while the jaws are still growing.

Am I too old for braces or Invisalign?

No. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and many of our patients are adults. Clear options such as Invisalign and InSmile make treatment especially easy to fit into professional life.

How long does treatment take?

It depends on your needs. Minor corrections may take a few months, while comprehensive treatment typically takes 12 to 24 months. We will give you a personalized estimate at your consultation.

Does orthodontic treatment hurt?

You may feel pressure or soreness for a few days when you start treatment or switch to a new set of aligners. Over-the-counter pain relievers and soft foods usually help.

How often will I need appointments?

Most patients visit every 6 to 10 weeks. With Invisalign, some check-ins can be spaced further apart.

Can I still play sports or an instrument?

Absolutely. We recommend a mouthguard for contact sports. Wind instrument players usually adjust quickly, and aligners can be removed when needed.

Do I still need to see my general dentist?

Yes. Continue regular cleanings and check-ups with your dentist every six months during treatment.

What is the difference between Invisalign and InSmile?

Both are discreet ways to straighten teeth. Invisalign uses removable clear aligners, while InSmile uses a hidden, gentle approach on the back of the teeth. We will help you decide which suits you best.

Will I need to wear a retainer?

Yes. Retainers keep your teeth in their new positions. We will guide you on how often to wear them, which is often nightly over the long term.

Do you accept insurance?

Many dental plans include orthodontic benefits. Our team will verify your coverage and help you get the most from it. See Financing & Insurance.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. We offer flexible, interest-free in-house payment plans, and we accept HSA and FSA cards.

What should I do in an orthodontic emergency?

Most issues, such as a poking wire or loose bracket, can wait until the next business day. See our emergency guide, and call us for anything urgent.
