Patient Care

Most Orthodontic Problems Can Wait

True orthodontic emergencies are rare. Most issues, such as a loose bracket or a poking wire, can be managed comfortably at home until we can see you.

Let us know about any problem so we can schedule a repair and keep your treatment on track.

Quick Fixes

Common Issues & What to Do

01

Poking Wire

Push the wire flat with the eraser end of a pencil, or cover it with orthodontic wax. If it still pokes, call us.

02

Loose Bracket

If the bracket is still on the wire, leave it in place and cover it with wax if it is irritating. Call us to schedule a repair.

03

Lost or Broken Aligner

Wear your previous aligner, or move to the next one if we have advised it, and call us so we can order a replacement.

04

Sore Teeth

Some tenderness is normal after adjustments or a new aligner. Over-the-counter pain relievers and soft foods help.

05

Mouth Sores

Rinse with warm salt water and use wax to cushion brackets. Sores usually heal within a few days.

06

Loose Band or Appliance

Save any pieces that come off and bring them to your appointment. Call us to let us know.
